Breathe Again - A Poem for Ahmaud

Today the world shifted just a bit

Enough for hope to breathe again

Was it just last week when I felt the Rittenhouse pain

I’m gone for now hope did proclaim

This morning I thought I felt a flutter

A feeling in my chest, a little shudder

I stopped - there it is again

I closed my eyes, picked up my pen

I’ll write this down, I’ve much to learn

I know the signs of your return

I’m not yet healed, I still feel the burn

Stay away, I can't bear to hear your song

Hope, you’ll crush my soul if this goes wrong

I’m weary from verdicts that have left me cold

I cannot bare to hear this story told

I must be still and wait to behold

The whisper coming over the trees

It feels like love and a warm breeze

It’s that feeling in my chest

I know that whisper - hope for the best

For love has answered my request today hope returned I feel love and peace

And taught me that fear I must release

Justice is more than a fleeting dream

And things are not always what they seem

I received the news in a quiet space

As tears were flowing down my face

Today I began to believe again

And hope returned with love and grace

Rest in Peace today Ahmaud

The verdict was ordained by God
